The Role
We are seeking a capable accounting professional to join our client’s Melbourne team. This is a fantastic opportunity to work with a dynamic, entrepreneurial team dedicated to reshaping the Commodity markets across Australia and New Zealand.
This role offers a balance of hands-on responsibilities and growth opportunities, with a focus on improving financial systems, enhancing operational efficiency, and delivering insights. As the business expands, you’ll have the chance to advance your career, with pathways to leadership or specialized roles in accounting.
Key responsibilities will include:
• Supporting month-end close, including accrual accounting and financial reporting
• Conducting balance sheet reconciliations, journal entries, and ensuring ledger accuracy
• Tracking and analysing operational expenses, capital expenditure, and profit margins
• Assisting with cash flow management, treasury, and foreign exchange exposure
• Supporting mark-to-market and hedge accounting
• Contributing to budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis for operations
• Assisting in the implementation of financial systems and automation to boost efficiency
• Supporting audit, tax, and compliance requirements specific to the agricultural sector
• Providing commercial insights to support strategic decisions
The Person
We’d love to hear from you if you have the following skills and experience:
• Experience in financial or management accounting in a commercial environment, ideally with some exposure in agriculture or commodities
• Solid knowledge of accrual accounting and financial reporting standards
• Strong proficiency in Excel; experience with Xero or similar accounting software is a plus
• Interest in systems improvement and automation
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills with a collaborative approach
• Exposure to commodity markets, mark-to-market, or hedge accounting is advantageous
• CPA/CA qualification or working towards it is preferred
