The Company:  
Our client is a specialist global asset manager dedicated with a strong focus on forestry, renewable energy, and sustainable assets. They are extremely committed to creating long-term value to their investors while delivering positive environmental and social outcomes.
 
The Asset Manager will manage the newly purchased landmark property and its plantation forestry development and natural capital asset.


The Opportunity:  
A unique opportunity exists to manage this considerable landmark in forestry and natural capital. Approximately half the estate will be developed into softwood plantations, while the remainder will be managed for natural capital outcomes – including carbon, biodiversity, and renewable energy – with a strong focus on commercial returns.

The role will be responsible for all aspects of the asset’s performance including operations productivity, profitability and sustainability, financial management and reporting, statutory requirements, compliance and control, external liaison and process improvement and income development. You will be a role model in the core values of the business – including integrity, teamwork, and community commitment. A comprehensive support office provides support for this role.


The Role:
 
  • you will oversee and manage the asset and its long term of a large afforestation program
  • Work in closely with the entity managing operations.
  • seek potential acquisitions to expand the asset
  • drive natural capital opportunities such as carbon, biodiversity credits, and nature repair projects
  • lead wetland restoration, biodiversity projects, and cultural heritage management
  • build strong relationships with local communities, Traditional Owners, regulators, and stakeholders.
  • manage staff both permanent and contracted and drive a culture of workplace health and safety
  • setting, and managing and reporting against budgets and forecasts
  • implementing the sustainability policy of the businesses
 
The Person:
To be successful in this hands-on yet strategic role you will have the following capabilities:
  • excellent leadership, stakeholder, and engagement skills
  • proven experience in managing agricultural assets ideal in a sustainability environment
  • appreciation of natural capital including forestry and environment management
  • experience working in a corporate and commercial environment
  • suitable tertiary qualifications in Agriculture, forestry, or Business Management preferred
  • proven experience delivering income from land-based and/or environmental opportunities.
  • some exposure to carbon and biodiversity markets, and ideally Tasmanian environmental regulations (highly regarded).
  • a commitment to local employment and sustainable development.

You might be a well experienced environmental asset manager or have experience managing farming operations. You may also be well established in your career or on the cusp of taking on such a role.
Living and working in the community is essential, based in Northeast Tasmania.
