The Company

Grains Australia was established to deliver industry-good services on behalf of the Australian grains value chain. Its core functions include establishing and maintaining the national grain variety classification system, supporting and improving trade and market access, and providing market and consumer and insights, and technical support and training to customers and participants across the grains industry.

Currently in an exciting phase of corporate growth and development, this is a great time to join an organisation making a tangible difference to the future of Australia’s grains industry.

The Role

In this role, the Council Manager will support Grains Australia’s Commodity Councils, made up of passionate growers, researchers and commercial leaders representing grains including wheat, barley, oilseeds, pulses, oat, as well as the Market Access and Trade Council. The role focuses on strengthening collaboration and driving outcomes that benefit the Australian grains industry.

You’ll build strong relationships with Council members and other stakeholders, facilitating constructive discussions that lead to clear direction and measurable results. You’ll also ensure information flows smoothly and effectively between the councils, Grains Australia and the wider grains community.

You’ll deliver the secretariat and coordination functions that keep the councils running effectively. This includes scheduling and facilitating meetings (both virtual and in-person), managing agendas, capturing high-level minutes, and preparing clear and professional communications and reports.

The Person

To be successful in this role, you’ll be a confident communicator and natural relationship builder who thrives in dynamic, stakeholder-driven environments. You’ll be comfortable engaging with people across all levels of the grains industry from growers and researchers to commercial leaders and skilled at turning diverse perspectives into professional communications and actions.

Ideally, you will possess:
  • Proven experience in stakeholder engagement or relationship management or industry coordination
  • Confidence in facilitating groups and leading conversations toward practical outcomes
  • A solid understanding of governance and committee processes
  • Strong secretariat and administrative capability, with the ability to distil complex information into clear summaries and reports
  • Demonstrated project management and organisational skills, with attention to detail and follow-through
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, including high-level minute taking and report preparation
  • The ability to work autonomously and collaboratively, managing multiple priorities with professionalism and discretion
  • A proactive, solutions-focused mindset and the confidence to influence and engage across a broad stakeholder network
On Offer

To attract a high calibre professional to this exciting national position, an attractive salary will be negotiated. On offer, is a rare opportunity to represent one of Australia’s key industry bodies and to make a significant contribution to Australia’s grain sector. This fulltime role can be performed from a regional (remote) or metropolitan (hybrid) location. Regular travel will be required to attend in-person council meetings and key events.
