They meet the evolving needs of grain growers with a vision to be regarded as the grower’s “RD&E department.” GRDC believes it should be a valued grower asset that is open, transparent, and trusted - a research partner who seeks to be agile and business like in their operations and improve productivity and profitability for growers.

The Opportunity
GRDC is seeking a  Crop Protection Manager - North to deliver the GRDC’s crop protection business cases to create enduring profitability for Australian grain growers. Working closely with the crop protection team, this outward facing role works with growers and industry to develop, manage and report on a portfolio of investment projects around insecticides, herbicides and fungicides, in the northern grains industry.

Reporting to the Senior Manager Crop Protection, you will be identifying opportunities and building strong regional business cases for investments in crop protection projects. The focus is all about reducing the impact of insects, weeds and fungi in the sector.

The role involves:

  • Procurement and contract management.

About You
To be successful in this role you will have:
  • Understanding of crop protection constraints in Australian grain production systems.
  • Experience in the Research and Development environment working in a related field (weed science, entomology, plant pathology).
  • Ability to engage, network and work closely with wide range of stakeholders.
  • Project management experience.
  • Ability to influence and communicate technical information clearly, both spoken word and written.
  • Tertiary qualifications in science, agricultural science or equivalent.

The ability to communicate well with growers and industry is vital in this role, as you are the industry facilitator on all things crop protection.

There is travel in the role, some out of hour’s work required, valid driver’s licence and Australian citizenship is required. The working arrangement is a hybrid WFH and office. Training is provided and encouraged to continue to refine your professional development skills.

This is a great opportunity to make a valuable contribution to the future profitability of Australia’s grain industry, focusing on crop protection. GRDC aim to enhance productivity, profitability and sustainability of Australian grain growers and benefit the industry and wider community.
