In addition to the general skills of governance and business, Dairy Australia wishes to appoint two Non-Executive Directors, with the skills and experience set out below:
Research, Development & Commercialisation
Expected background & Experience
- Proven ability in leading a successful R&D organisation with a strong focus on innovation in food / agribusiness. Ideally, dairy would be part of this background.
- Strong experience in the development of strategic and operating plans and in linking relevant R&D programs to these plans.
- Successful track record in the commercialisation of R&D outcomes and understanding of multiple approaches and routes to achieve this.
- Demonstrated experience in managing a diverse portfolio of R&D/innovation programs and a broad understanding of evaluation approaches and tools in this area.
- Experience and understanding of various approaches to the management of intellectual property.
- Possesses a network of professional and R&D contacts appropriate to the needs of this industry role.
- Exposure and experience in dairy would be highly regarded as would an understanding of market development and world dairy markets.
- Dairy industry knowledge particularly feedbase management, farm business management, including drivers of profitability and productivity in diverse dairy farm systems and animal performance and welfare.
- Experience with research and development adoption, including innovative farming method adoption and change management to drive such adoption.
Expected background & experience
- Broad perspective and general business acumen developed through a background in senior financial and/or commercial roles.
- High level strategic financial experience, including operating and capital expenditure management.
- Strong commercial judgement and high-level corporate governance skills, including risk assessment, compliance and management frameworks.
- Good understanding of the management of investments/capital and investment market exposure.
- Prior experience as a Non-Executive Director and as a Chair of an Audit & Risk Management Committee would be highly regarded.
- Experience in leadership of an enterprise (or a large team within an enterprise) where that enterprise adheres to and demonstrates a values-based culture.
- Understanding of the drivers in building community trust.
- Experience in facilitating organisational change/transformation.

- Preparedness to undertake dairy industry visits to understand the operating environment and engage with levy payers and regional management.

- Ability to influence and to communicate/explain a point of view and consider alternative points of view.
