Ulupna Pastoral Company is a market leading beef backgrounding facility (supported by some cropping activities) in Northern Victoria, with a growing reputation for outstanding cattle performance and customer management. The UPC team is redeveloping ~8,000ha of former dairy farms into a fodder production engine to feed the growing demand for sustainable cattle feeding facilities.

The Position:
This newly created position of General Manager will be responsible to lead the business through its next phase of growth and consolidation while upholding UPC’s business values, community presence and strong reputation. The GM will be responsible for leading the overall strategy, operations, and performance of the business which includes managing day-to-day operations, driving financial performance, ensuring high standards of animal welfare, and developing a strong team culture.
The role requires a hands-on team leader who can develop a strong culture within the current team who are critical to UPC’s ongoing success. Equally important is a skillset that can balance commercial acumen with a respect for the community in which they operate and the people who support the enterprise.
A key component of this position will be the development and implementation of strategic initiatives for growth, diversification and/or value-adding to deliver on the long-term vision and plans for the business while leading the business with a long-term mindset and commitment to sustainability.
The Person:
We are keen to hear from you if you possess the following skills, experience and key attributes:
- Sound understanding of and experience in managing a large-scale livestock enterprise, with a strong focus on cattle performance in an intensive feeding system
- Practical understanding and willingness to continually learn about cattle production and performance metrics
- Open, transparent and communicative leadership style with high level mentoring capability and a genuine desire to upskill staff and encourage teamwork, collaboration and accountability
- Commercially minded with strong analytical, financial and reporting capability as well as a mindset of continuous improvement
- High level interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to build and maintain key relationships with both internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to work under pressure with a genuine commitment to animal welfare and workplace health and safety
- Strong alignment to Ulupna Pastoral Company business values with genuine respect for local communities
- Tertiary qualification in Agriculture, Business Management or related highly regarded
- Hold a current driver’s license
