The Red Meat Advisory Council (RMAC) is the policy leadership and advisory forum for Australia’s 80,000 red meat and livestock businesses across the supply chain to grow trust, pride and demand in Australian red meat. RMAC is responsible for ensuring a strong, effective and collaborative working relationship between the red-meat industry and Federal Government.

Their member Peak Industry Bodies provide leadership, formulate policy and set strategic imperatives for the sectors they represent, and they work closely with their respective Research and Development Corporations to set research, development, extension and marketing priorities that support the prosperity of the Australian red meat and livestock sector.
  
The board of RMAC is comprised of six industry appointed directors drawn from RMAC’s members supported by a small secretariat.
Key functions include:
  • Fostering a forum for industry good between producers, lot feeders, livestock exporters and processors of beef, sheepmeat and goatmeat
  • Guide the progressive implementation of Red Meat 2030 and the formulation of its successor strategy through working with six members and industry service providers
  • A formal advisory board to the Federal Minister for Agriculture
  • Custodians of the Red Meat Memorandum of Understanding and the Red Meat Industry Fund
  • Directing the Australian Beef Sustainability Framework and the Industry Corporate Affairs Unit, is directing the right word?
This Independent Chair is a skills-based appointment with the following key qualities:
  • Demonstrated expertise in corporate governance in Chair and Director roles with the ability to revise Board governance procedures to improve organisational accountability and transparency in line with best practice
  • Future focussed leader capable of navigating an environment of constant change and solving complex problems with both industry and government
  • Superior communications skills including the ability to persuade and build consensus at the highest level of industry, government and community
  • The ability to act as a national spokesperson on behalf of an industry as needed
  • High level of authenticity, professionalism and credibility
  • Expertise and knowledge of the Australian red meat and livestock supply chain
