The Company

Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) is responsible for planning, investing, and overseeing research, development, and extension for the grains sector in Australia. They meet the evolving needs of grain growers with a vision to be regarded as the grower’s “RD&E department.” GRDC believes it should be a valued grower asset that is open, transparent, and trusted - a true partner who seeks to be agile and business like in their operations and improve productivity and profitability for growers.

The Opportunity

GRDC is seeking two Manager Genetic Technologies, one in cereals and coarse grains, and the second in pulses & oilseeds.

Both these roles will oversee the development of robust business cases for RD&E investment strategies in genetic technologies, with a strong focus on delivering outcomes for Australian grain growers. You will focus on either wheat, barley and coarse grains or pulses & oilseeds, and from time to time you may cross over. These roles develop and manage the RD&E investments across this portfolio.

Reporting to one of two Senior Manager Genetic Technologies, you by nature will be a curious individual, always looking at opportunities to seek out solutions to problems. You will work within a highly collaborative and supportive team, to identify and shape strategic RD&E investments that drive improvement in the rate and quantum of genetic gain, build robust business cases, and subsequently manage investments. The functions are a key enabling role, ensuring genetic improvement is embedded across grain production systems, RD&E investments, industry, and ag sector level partnerships.

Flexible working arrangements supported.

The roles involve:
  • Developing business cases for RD&E investment strategies
  • Fostering innovative approaches that address issues and/or capture opportunities
  • Program and compliant contract management
  • Key stakeholder engagement and collaboration
  • Strategic and systems thinking
  • Active management of new and ongoing investments
About You

To be successful in this role you will have:
  • At least 5 years of sound knowledge in RD&E, ideally in the agriculture sector
  • Direct experience in either cereals, pulses or oilseeds will be highly regarded
  • Demonstrated ability as a genuine team player, willing to work proactively within a dynamic team
  • Exceptional project negotiation and facilitation skills, with a commercialisation and adoption mindset
  • The ability to develop and assess business cases for investment with a focus on grower benefit
  • A passion and connection with the grains sector
  • Strong collaboration and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Ability to influence and communicate technical information clearly to diverse audiences
  • Tertiary qualifications in science or agriculture science essential, with postgraduate qualifications (e.g., PhD) deemed as positive
Full Australian Working Rights (Citizenship or Permanent Residency) are required.

Why This Role

GRDC plays a vital role in the grains sector, and this is a genuine opportunity to participate in the genetics aspect of RD&E and make a real impact on grower productivity. They aim to enhance productivity, profitability and sustainability of Australian grain growers and benefit the industry and wider community.
