Horticulture Innovation Australia Limited (Hort Innovation) is the grower-owned Research & Development Corporation (RDC) for Australia’s horticulture industry. Through investment in research, development, marketing and trade initiatives, Hort Innovation helps to advance Australia’s $18.4 billion horticulture sector, building a prosperous and sustainable future for growers.

Working in partnership with growers, government, and leading Australian & international research, technology, and consumer strategy experts, Hort Innovation annually invests more than $180m in programs funded by grower levies, Australian Government contributions, and co-investment from industry and external partners.

Hort Innovation’s Director Nomination Committee (DNC) is now inviting applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates seeking election to the Board at the 2026 Annual General Meeting (AGM) in November.

Hort Innovation’s skills-based board is comprised of nine Non-Executive Directors. In line with the Board Skills Matrix, applications are sought from candidates with expertise in the following skill areas, particularly with respect to an agricultural setting:

Finance, Accounting & Audit
  • Senior level experience in auditing or accounting, with expertise in financial reporting and corporate finance.
  • Formal qualifications in finance/accounting (including CPA/CA membership) and experience as Chair of an Audit & Risk Committee will be highly regarded.
  • Ability to understand corporate accounts, financial materials and financial reporting requirements and their implications for risks and opportunities.
Public Policy & Administration
  • Understanding of Australian public policy, policy making and the drivers of governmental decision making.
Desirable Skills & Experience: 

Demonstrated expertise and experience in the following areas is also highly desirable:
  • Governance, Risk & Compliance
  • Strategy, Leadership & Business Management
  • Horticulture Production / Supply Chain
  • Research & Development & Applied Innovation
  • Investment Evaluation & Funds Management
