Australian Mushroom Growers Association (AMGA) is the national peak body dedicated to driving value for its members, Australia’s mushroom growers. Their vision is to ensure mushrooms are a vital, unique part of the Australian diet. They provide a range of services to members and the broader industry to foster growth and development. Focussed on continual improvement, they work with Hort Innovation to ensure the levy funded Research and Development and Marketing programs are well directed and responsive to industry needs.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the CEO, AMGA, we are searching for a Research, Development and Extension Manager.

This full-time position is a dual role, in support of the Australian Mushroom industry:
  1. Hort Innovation - Research Development and Extension Coordinator: 0.6 FTE
To optimise the performance of the Hort Innovation Mushroom RDE investment program by supporting Hort Innovation delivery programs to industry;
  1. AMGA - Research and Development Project Manager: 0.4 FTE
To manage and deliver RD&E projects facilitated by the AMGA, and to provide technical advice to support the initiatives of the peak industry body.

In line with the Mushroom Strategic Investment Plan, the role ensures the RD&E program is well coordinated, responds to industry needs and delivers on expectations. Focused on interacting with growers and researchers you will be influencing the impact of RDE delivery.

Responsibilities include:
  • Supporting the Hort Innovation advisory mechanism to create efficiencies.
  • Supporting quality investments.
  • Building awareness and knowledge amongst delivery partners to identify synergies.
  • Contributing awareness of industry needs.
  • Contribute to the Marsh Lawson Mushroom Research Committee.
Gaining the growers trust, you will be the central point of contact for the mushroom industry RDE for all stakeholders, taking projects from conception keeping them on track, then completion. Approximately 75% of your time will be working on projects and 25% will be on the delivery.

Note - This is a 2-3 year contract, with an aim for extension subject to receiving further funding.

About You

To be successful in this role you will have:
  • High level communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in horticultural research and/or extension.
  • Track record of project management.
  • Understanding of extension practices and designing projects for impact.
  • Ability to work with and across different organisations.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in agricultural science or related field.
Knowledge and experience with the Australian mushroom industry is desirable, but not essential.
