The Organisation:
Australian Eggs is a member owned, not for profit company providing marketing and Research, Development and Extension (RD&E) services for the Australian egg industry. Focussed on continuous improvement, they find solutions to industry challenges. By engaging with the community, egg farmers, industry, and government stakeholders, they invest in projects to ensure the long-term sustainability of the egg industry.
The Australian egg industry faces disease challenges including avian influenza and salmonella enteritidis outbreaks. Australian Eggs is increasing its focus in this area to develop new options to manage these risks.
The Role:
Reporting to the Managing Director, there is now the requirement for a Senior Biosecurity Specialist
to develop and managing the industry preparedness for emergency animal disease risks. This addresses a key objective of the Australian Eggs strategic plan.
The role involves predominantly engaging with industry and government, utilising technical analysis, and internal collaboration to implement the Food Safety and Biosecurity program.
This includes:
- Developing a program of R&D, analysis and engagement activities, to progress the feasibility of avian influenza vaccination for the sector
- Lead engagement, facilitating collaborations with senior stakeholders to secure commitment
- Develop and deliver communications material
- Stepping up to be the egg industry specialist on food safety and biosecurity
The Person:
To be successful in this demanding role you will have:
- Exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills
- Ability to build relationships across multiple organisations including government agencies
- Veterinary, animal science or relevant government engagement experience and understanding of emergency animal diseases
- Strong Program management skills and experience
- Understanding of R&D, innovation and extension programs
- Tertiary qualifications in Vet / Animal science
You will be someone who can multitask in a busy environment with multiple deadlines and multiple stakeholders delivered with energy and a positive attitude. It’s likely you will currently have a significant presence in the poultry industry or broader EAD networks, with some veterinary technical expertise.
