The Company:

Grains Australia was established to deliver industry-good services on behalf of the Australian grains value chain. Its core functions include supporting and improving trade and market access, establishing and maintaining national grain variety classification systems, providing market and consumer insights and technical support and training to customers and participants across the grains industry.
Wholly funded by the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC), Grains Australia works closely with government, industry and international stakeholders to improve market access outcomes for Australian grain and grain products.

The Opportunity:

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Trade and Market Access, the Technical Manager, Trade and Market Access plays a vital role in ensuring that Grains Australia’s T&MA business unit is fit for purpose and that the availability, quality, and utilisation of relevant technical information (with a focus on agricultural chemicals and max residue limits), scientific evidence and data is optimised to meet the current and future needs of the organisation.

As a crucial link between T&MA needs, Australian and international government regulatory requirements, the industry, and the research community, this role’s focus will be on providing insights and analysis on technical matters related to regulatory requirements in support of trade and market access matters.

The Technical Manager will work closely with internal and external stakeholders to support the delivery of effective solutions aligned with Grains Australia’s T&MA goals. It is envisioned that this opportunity will provide the successful candidate with a platform to develop their career within the organisation. There will be some limited travel requirements in this position.

About You:

To be considered for this opportunity, candidates will ideally possess the following:
  • A sound working history gained in a technical (support) position in the Australian grains sector
  • Sector experience may include grain quality, agronomy, logistics, research, accumulation or agricultural chemicals
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement, report writing and problem-solving skills
  • Exposure to agricultural chemical use, regulations and how max residue limits play a crucial role in international trade and food security
  • Tertiary qualifications in a scientific field e.g. agronomy/applied science
  • A willingness to take a proactive approach to delivering benefits for industry
  • A high level of scientific aptitude and career motivation
